Pros:

Well spec'd versions look great. Good to drive and quick.

Cons:

Everything is an option. A similarly equipped MK1 would have been 5-7K cheaper when new.

Comments:

Having run a MK1 TT for 4 years I decided to puchase a MK2. However I nearly changed my mind when I was confronted with the options list - the MK1 was basically fully loaded as standard and the only options related to stereo upgrade and some cupholders. By contrast the MK2 required a least 4K spending on options to make it anything approach as nice a place to be as the MK1. I opted for the 3.2 DSG model mainly because the 2.0 was not available with Quattro. The 3.2 did have standard leather but unlike the MK1 the door arm rests were covered in some cheap feeling plastic - unless you went for the extended leather pack. As with the MK1 the stereo is basic and requires BOSE. I went for the IPOD connector at £150 it is the biggest waste of money in the motoring industry and should not be sold. If you are buying a TT go for the Symphony II in dash 6CD headunit instead. This plays MP3s on CD so gives you approximately 1000 tracks and unlike the IPOD the track name appears on the display so you can browse your music. Unlike many other 30K + cars you have to spend money on the steering wheel to get buttons to control the volume on the radio and if you want the phone kit - quite a good option - it is vital otherwise you have to touch the handset to make a call rendering the whole thing useless to a law abiding motorist. IMO Audi should not allow the phone kit to be specified without the multi-function steering wheel. Other options I went for included the RS4 alloy wheels, Xenon headlights - another thing that bugged me...these were standard on the MK1 and on the MK2 are the only way to get headlight washers (which is actually what I wanted). The MK2 TT is a very nice car but it does lack the sense of occasion of the MK1. It has better handling than the MK1 but it is not such a step change that some motoring journalists make out. For instance it is a long way from a Porsche Cayman or Boxter or even a Nissan Z350. In terms of running costs. I have not had it serviced yet but I am expecting it to be expensive but infrequent. My last car was dispatched at 50,000 miles and had been for a service three times - the last time about 6000 miles before I sold it. I would expect the current car to follow suit - currently on 9,500 and showing 7000 until the next service. The 3.2 is expensive to run and the fuel tank is way to small. I really wish they would put Quattro in the 2.0 (197) car as it is considerably more economical. I get a 240 mile range from the 55 litres and I am fed up of stopping for fuel. Fortnately the DSG gear box strangely keeps you out of the highest VED bracket - for some reason the manual pumps out more CO2 so a bit of cash is saved there. All in all I am happy with the car but I do occasionally get a nostaligic feeling for my old Mk1. I do think Audi are riding a bit of a wave with this and may be taking many TT fans with them. I doubt I will keep this for the full term as it is really a bloated version of the original concept.
