RENAULT CLIO
HATCHBACK (1991 - 1998)

Pros:
Fuel economy and reliability: Not much has gone wrong on the car, in 2 years only the 'crank sensor' stopped working when it rained, but that's it. MPG are good, your get about at about 33-44mpg. The book says you can get up to 62mpg out of it, but that's pie in the sky. It's also low cost to insure, at 30 I pay £200 per year.
Cons:
Can be a little jolty and have some miner electrical problems. It's real slow, very small inside, at 6ft tall I do get back pain on long drives. It handles badly and the breaks are not too sharp. I would also imagine that if you were hit by something of any size you will be as flat as the car.
Comments:
My Clio hit the road in 1998 and now has 85,000 miles on the clock. It's a very small non-sporty slow car with bad brakes and rubbish handling. You won't feel real safe because of its size.
However, it is cheap to run, costs are low and if you want to buy and run a cheap reliable car this is the one for you. £33 to fill the tank at 83p per litre will give you 300-400 miles (depending on how you drive it).
